Live traffic information delivers digital real-time traffic data: Road restrictions, traffic jams, road works, accidents, road closures, etc. With the real-time traffic function, you can visualize the live traffic information on a digital map. Besides that, you can also include it directly in your route planning to effectively avoid congestion. If it isn't possible or doesn't make sense to make a detour around a bottleneck, the expected delay can be factored into your route plan and the estimated time of arrival is revised.
Historical traffic information, also known as traffic patterns, represent traffic flows as static speed profiles for specific road networks. To give a simple example: if the speed of a truck on a route with a speed limit of 80 km/h is regularly 30 km/h between 5 and 7 p.m., there is clearly a traffic pattern. These traffic patterns are displayed in hydrographs. On the basis of this knowledge, a detour can be planned before the bottleneck occurs. The traffic patterns therefore avoid to replan a route ad hoc during the journey on the basis of real-time traffic data.
