How to deal with geocoding issues?

Post by Bernd Welter »

Hello together,

this posting is just a little note for those who are facing some specific issues in geocoding and I want to let you know where to delegate such topics:
Some of you might face conditions such as
  • an address is completely missing, you don't find it even by trying various input patterns
  • an address is found, the spelling is proper but the coordinates are located at the wrong place
  • an address is found, the coordinates are proper but the structure is wrong (e.g. "city name" appears in "district field" or vice versa)
  • ...
:!: Important for on premise customers: Check with us, whether you are using the latest map data (xLocate1) respectively Geocoder Index (GCD within xLocate2).

As we usually reproduce such conditions within PTV before we forward them to the data providers please send those questions to support together with
  • version of map data (xserver1) or the geocodr index data (xlocate2) that is used
  • complete XML request / response
  • /CONF folder
This helps us and you a lot and reduces the response time!

Please be aware that a complete roundtrip
  • customer
  • PTV support
  • data provider (e.h. TOMTOM, HERE)
  • PTV data department
  • customer
is a time consuming process due to quality insurance and therefore requires patience.

Best regards Bernd

The modern xServers have a good way of giving you all the information our support department needs by creating a support package. Please see the article Generating support packages for information on howto make a support package if you run into an issue.
