What means "Note, no xlocate is configured by default."?

Post by Bernd Welter »

Hi there,

yesterday I was in touch with a player who installed xServer 2. He saw the following comment in the xserver.properties:
Note, no xlocate is configured by default.
To use that on-premise you need additional geocoding data.
Contact your PTV representative for more information.
Just some litte info about this:
  • The xLocate2 module requires a large amount of additional address point data (10GB download, 22GBB extracted) which has to be located in the real maps subfolder GCD.
  • The shipped server contains sample data in /data/map/gdc
  • The complete data of a EU CITY HERE map isn't shipped with the regular map DVDs. We provide it as download on request.
  • As the GCD data is usually missing you might face some "...missing... " error behaviour
  • Currently we have address point data for Europe CIty maps 2017.1H and 2017.2H (HERE).

So if you face this message check whether you need xLocate module. If this is the case but you don't have the data: get in touch with your sales representative at PTV.

Just let me add that we recommend to store the real Geocoder GCD data in a deticated /GCD folder where you can maintain different versions.
TO tell the server where to look for the data you have to add the following key manually into the /conf/xserver.conf because the default setting relies on the /map/gcd dummy data:
geocodingDataPath = """C:\ptv-xserver\gcd\20230715"""
Of course the path to the dta has to match your local system's reference.

Best regards,
Bernd
