Functional differences between POI and Buddies

Post by Bernd Welter »

Hi there,

I heard that there are different categories of POINTS OF INTEREST, e.g. the ones provided by PTV (POI) and my own ones (called BUDDIES). And I heard that there might be functional differences such as "feature ABC works with POI but not with BUDDIES".

Can you give us an overview of these differences?

Best regards Bernd

POIs are Points of Interest, static points with are displayed on the map,
Normally they come with the map data. Besides the data from map providers
we offer some special layers like
- terminals (connections to other transport systems like RoLa, or terminals in ports)
- truck parking (from the truck parking Europe community)
- industrial areas
- gas stations (enriched by information which fuel cards are accepted)

You can use the as a target, search for them in proximity and corridors in the interface,
but they are not dynamic.

You can create your own POI-layer with tools we provide

Buddies, in contrast, are dynamically created map objects via the RI-Interface
the have a position, and an icon (that can be transparent as well)
You can show them move them, delete them and put a geofence to them.

the vehicle enters the geofence of a buddy object, an event is called to inform you about it

Best is to use POIs for static, mass objects, and Buddies for dynamic objects
