Ferry characteristics while xTour calculation

Post by Prakash »

Hi,
I want to know, how xTour creates tours where travelling is possible by ferry only.
Lets take Germany, there are dozen islands some accessible by car (via bridge or train), some only by ferry but with cars and some by ferry but without car transport.
How does xTour handles these different types? And how does xTour deal with shops on islands in general?
Is there a possibility to involve the ferry characteristics while calculation?

Best regards,
Prakash

Hello Prakash,

if a tour optimization is based on DistanceMatrixByRoad you have to take a look at the regular routing options within the used profiles. Once the distance matrix is computed the TourOpt only "sees" driving times and distances. The optimizing component itself doesn't distinguish between ferries, truck attributes and so on.

Now the routing parameters are specified in a file you refer to via the DistanceMatrixByRoad.profileName.
effective-profile.xml
an almost complete profile file which can be used to parametrize various routing options.

The handling of ferries is parametrized in this section of the profile:

Please be aware that any question dealing with routing behaviour is more a topic for the xRoute forum (while a question such as "how to change to a different profile within a matrix" is linked to xTour...).
