Display Map

Post by weickert_emc »

We need to improve the visual quality of the map display.
Our customers compare the card with other providers and
the PTV does not do well there.
Is there a list of available layers?
Federal states, districts, state borders, city limits etc?
Are there other configuration options for the display of the map?

Hello Andre,

in theory we have to split some topics:
  • contributing data sources such as the core layers
    • labels
    • transport
    • background
    or the FeatureLayers
    • PTV_PreferredRoutes
    • PTV_RestrictionZones
    • PTV_SpeedPatterns / PTV_TruckSpeedPatterns
    • PTV_TruckAttributes
    • PTV_TrafficIncidents
    • PTV_RoadAttributes
    or remote sources such as
  • rendering definition: this specifies how data is supposed to be painted depending on zoom level and how it is supposed to be painted. Now this second part is probably the more tricky one. PTV xMapServer (both xMap1 and xMap2) based on raster maps offers an underlying technological approach that enables users to define their own rendering definition based on so-called render.ini files. The advantage of this approach is the level of flexibility when you use it in an on premise environment. The disadvantage is that it is more or less an "on premise only" feature: you can't provide your own definition of render ini files in PTV xServer Internet.
Since 2021 we also offer VectorMaps through PTV Developer - an approach where the client itself is responsible for rendering the digital information and therefore you could evaluate this technology to increase your level of satisfaction when it comes to "details": while the data that is returned by the VectorMaps API is purely the relevant geometry you can define the rendering style within your application. But here's also a downsight: you probably have to replace well known map controls such as PTV xServer.NET by some other, third party components.
Long story short:
get back to me for a 1:1 demo!
