HGV levy (UK) calculation

Post by innomedio »

Hello Bernd,

Our partners have indicated that in the UK, the HGV levy that was suspended during COVID has been reintroduced from August 2023, in a somewhat revised form. My question would be, is there an option to use data related to this under xServer1? I did not find any information pointing to this in the toll updates.
Thank you in advance for the guidance.

Regards,

Hi Peter,

the HGV Levy is based on
The HGV levy applies to heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) of 12,000kg or more. The levy aims to make sure these vehicles contribute when using the road network. The levy amount is based on:
  • vehicle weight, as a broad approximation to CO2 emissions
  • vehicle air quality emissions standard
  • levy duration
So this means that from the perspective of PTV it is seen as a vignette (amount based on length of period) not a toll (amount that applies based on distance). The difference is explained in this article.

Currently the PTV xroute 2 and PTV Developer.Routing API do not deal with vignettes.
