Traffic Update Frequency from TOMTOM

Post by g.fiume »

Hi, I need to know how the data about traffic are sent by tom tom. What's the frequency of the updates and when something happens to a street how is sent this information to the PTV servers? Does tom tom send a realtime update or does it wait some seconds or minutes?

Thank you very much

Hello Gianbattista,

good question. The architecture behind the traffic info is multi tier:
  • on premise and cloud servers use the Content Update Service to connect to PTVs Layer Delivery Server (LDS). The update interval for this polling is configureable. The default is 90 seconds (=CUS update).
  • the component between LDS and TOMTOM has to update it's content every 4 minutes = 240 seconds (=
    LDS update)
    .
  • TOMTOM has to update it's data. THis is done every 2mins = 120secs (=TOMTOM update).
Of course the quality of the mechanisms as a whole depends on the latency of the components.
Best regards
Bernd
