xLocate 1 : interest of "PHONETIC" search in French

Post by Guillaume_Vallin »

Hello,

Usually, recommendation was done to activate PHONETIC search on xLocate 1 as it comes quite early in the search process (before FUZZY if I am right).

Nevertheless, feedbacks we got from customers / users is more or less that, enabled or not, it does not change the final result.

Is it it possible to get some precisions regarding use cases where PHONETIC search can be useful or not ?

Thanks

Both approaches have there advantages and disadvantages. The phonetic is not so powerful when two letters are swaped and works only for certain languages like english, french and german. Fuzzy works for all languages and two typos but the first two letters assumes as correct.
E.g. xL1 doesn't returns Toulouse if you search for Tulouse and Search.Phonetic is disabled. In contrast xL1 doesn't returns Toulouse if the input is Touluose and Search.Fuzzy is disabled.
